CFM Certification Process

Dear CFM:
Effective January 1, 2018, and additional requirement for the CFM credential has been added.  In addition to the FM experience/education requirement, all candidates must complete an Ethics Assessment prior to the CFM credential being awarded.  Current CFMs must complete the Ethics Assessment every other renewal cycle or every six (6) years. Details can be found below.

Rationale:
IFMA is a member of the International Ethics Standards Coalition (IESC), which has created an ethical framework for the global property market. As a result, the CFM Scheme Committee has determined that an Ethics Assessment will be required for all current CFMs, as well as CFM credential applicants.

Ethics Assessment Options:
•    HR Classroom Code of Business Conduct and Ethics Training Course – one hour e-learning program.
Step 1: Access form through your CAMP record.
Step 2: Choose CFM Ethics Training Pmt Form - HR Classroom.
Step 3: When complete, choose CFM Ethics Training Completion Form and upload your documentation.

The Code of Business Ethics is a set of principles that summarize a Company's ethical standards. Its purpose is to guide employees in making good judgments regarding their work. This training is designed to help employers comply with the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), Federal Sentencing Guidelines (FSG), and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX). This course provides training on ethical behavior for both staff and supervisors.

•    RICS Ethics Assessment – three hour e-learning program
One of the characteristics that distinguish an RICS member is the absolute commitment to our ethical behavior. This course will explore the topics through interactive learning modules and case studies.  RICS membership requires this course annually.

Step 1: Access the course through the link above.
Step 2: When complete, use the CFM Ethics Training Completion Form, in your CAMP record to document the course.

•    Employer-Sponsored Ethics Training
If your employer has Ethics Training which meets the framework established by the International Ethics Standards Coalition, you can submit the training for consideration by the CFM Scheme Committee for approval.  Contact credentials@ifma.org for more information.

CFM Beta Test

Beginning in January 2007, the test will be available at Prometric testing centers throughout North America. To find the center most convenient for you, please visit Prometric’s web site at: http://securereg3.prometric.com/

There will be no charge to those taking the test. The testing period will continue until results are sufficient for statistical analysis, so please try to set your appointment for the earliest possible date. You will be notified in advance if the test period will be ending before your appointment date.

The test consists of 379 multiple choice questions. First, there will be a brief tutorial to acquaint testers with the software program. When the test begins, the timer will start at 7.5 hours. The test will end when all questions have been answered or when the time runs out, whichever comes first. After the test has ended, testers must complete a brief survey regarding their level of FM expertise.

Testers will be able to take short “bio breaks” as needed during which the timer will not be stopped. There will be one thirty-minute lunch break which pauses the timer; it can be taken at any time. Testers may leave the testing center during the lunch break only.

If you are a CFM: You may claim ten maintenance points on your next renewal.

CFM’s can get points toward their re-certification!
Attend a lunch meeting with educational content and receive one point for each hour of education. Certificates will now be available at applicable lunch meetings. Sign and date the certificate, hold it in your folder and when it is time to renew your certification, you will include points on your worksheet and use the certificate for supporting documentation.

Also, earn ½ point just for attending a lunch meeting! Include the meeting notice as supporting documentation and take ½ point on your worksheet for each lunch meeting you attended.

If you are taking the test to earn your CFM: Testers who wish to have their beta test answers scored to earn the CFM must meet all CFM requirements. (Results will not be available until after the CFM Exam revision process is completed, which could be as long as six months.)

Please complete the online application which can be found at:
https://www.ifma.org/secure/learning/certification_app.cfm

Simply type “beta” in the credit card number field, then submit the application.

If you’ve previously been approved to take the exam (since January 1, 2005), you do not need to complete the online application form again.
